Simon obtained his master’s degree in Biochemical Engineering Technology at Ghent University in 2025. As a PhD researcher, he will focus on the control of phytopathogenic fungi by uniting RNA interference technology, performance-enhancing polymers, and antifungal enzymes. With his research, Simon hopes to provide farmers with an environmentally safe and spray-based (non-GMO) alternative to synthetic fungicides, paving the way to a more sustainable agricultural sector. This project, for which LAMP collaborates with the Lab of Agrozoology and the Polymer Chemistry and Biomaterials Group, is submitted for FWO funding. Kris Audenaert and Kristof De Schutter are his supervisors.
